► Painter Arvo Summanen (1928–2006) was one of the artists of the legendary Bronda Attic in Helsinki at the turn of the 1950s and 1960s. It was the shared studio of a Parisian-style group of bohemian artists located in the attic above Café Brondin (Bronda), which had a long- standing reputation as a watering hole for artists and writers. The artists in the attic, however, were evicted in 1962 because of their restless bohemian lifestyle. Also Summanen’s career as an artist, which had begun with promise, gradually declined. During the artist’s last years, unique freedom to create art and joy led to over 300 paintings. The book was published in association with Helsingin Saskia society.
