► A depicter of absurd everyday activities
Iiu Susiraja’s provocative self-portraits break all sorts of rules. In them she plays with food, uses everyday objects in odd ways, and questions restrictive ideals of beauty. Her pictures deal with being a woman and human relationships with both warmth and brutal honesty. “The strange humour comes in unavoidably,” the artist herself says.
Dry Joyis the first presentation in book form of Iiu Susiraja’s idiosyncratic photographand video works. It gives a cross-section of the artist’s entire production, both the initial phase of pictures taken at home and the recent studio photos.
