► We are living in the midst of an historic watershed that is transforming both contemporary art and art discourse. Climate change, the looming menace of eco-disaster, political turmoil, the destabilization of democracies, and massive waves of migration are forcing us to embrace new perspectives on our possible futures. The moral basis of art and art scholarship is in a state of radical transition. Understanding the new ethos calls for a creative reimagining of society and newfound acceptance of plants, animals and other organisms as our intimates, as part of “us” rather than “them”.
