► Photographic artists Heikki Willamo and Kikka Niittynen have lived in a century-old repurposed school in the rural district of Karjalohja for nearly 30 years. Valon ja varjon talo (House of Light and Shadow) tells the story of their home and its surroundings from the viewpoints of two artists. The nostalgic architecture and the play of light and shadow on the old windowpanes have inspired a collection of hauntingly beautiful, quietly enigmatic photographs, some of which are captured by traditional camera obscura. The household’s legion of beloved pets and the many wild animals that visit the organic garden add whimsy to the images with their colourful personalities.
Heikki Willamo is an award-winning nature photographer and photographic artist who has published numerous books of his work. Kikka Niittynen is head teacher of photography at Muurla Community College, and she has worked as a freelance photographer since 1995. She has exhibited her work in both solo and group exhibitions.
