Stiina Saaristo (b. 1976) is known for her masterfully executed large-scale drawings, which fuse intricate detail, macabre humour, and grotesque self-portraiture. Her practice probes the painful dimensions of life and emotion, confronting abuses of power, envy, greed, and aggression. With incisive psychological insight, Saaristo exposes the uncomfortable facets of humanity we prefer to hide – yet her works are consistently laced with humour.
