In recent years, a growing array of artists and researchers have begun taking a special interest in queer ecology, an interdisciplinary branch of art and research interrogating the tangled relationships between gender, sexuality, nature and biology. Queer Ecology and Art is the first anthology of articles on this topic to be published in Finnish. The authors of the essays share diverse perspectives on contemporary art’s explorations of cross-species aesthetics and the queer diversity of gender, sexuality and ecological existence. Drawing both from critical stances expressed in contemporary art and queer ecology research, the anthology reflects on the topically relevant themes of naturalness, identity, community, coexistence and responsibility. The authors are Finnish and international artists and researchers specializing in contemporary art and queer studies who are interested in the intersectionality and future potential of queer research, ecology and art. The book’s editors are Anita Seppä, Professor of Art History and Theory at the Academy of the Fine Arts/University of the Arts Helsinki, and artist Juni Klein.
