► Hjalmar Munsterhjelm (1840–1905) is a classic figure in Finnish landscape art. His deeply felt depictions of the rural landscape in Häme, the archipelago in winter, and moonlight scenes have captivated the art public and collectors throughout the decades.
Munsterhjelm was the first Finnish painter to give depictions of the landscape in winter a significant role in his art. Verdant vistas from the Düsseldorf region and majestic mountainscapes from Southern Germany are also familiar sights in his works.
