► Matti Peltokangas (born 1952) is known as a versatile sculptor, whose output comprises both classic figurative works and a modern language of form, whether cast in bronze or hewn in stone. Peltokangas masters all the scales of work from small medals to massive monuments, such as the red granite memorial to President Lauri Kristian Relander (1996) in Töölö in Helsinki.
Otso Kantokorpi, an art critic and a friend of Peltokangas for many years, has spent many hours in Peltokangas’ studio documenting the thoughts and recollections of his friend. This richly illustrated book covers Peltokangas’s whole output in sculpture from the 1980s to August 2008, when his figurative bronze statue of Urho Kekkonen was erected in the city of Raahe.
